Job post: Postdoctoral Fellow (CEVR-R123) / Research Associate(CEVR-R124)  / Research Assistant (CEVR-R125)  [Appointment period: contract of 12 months to max 36 months]
Organisation background:

Centre for Eye and Vision Research (CEVR)  is a research collaboration between The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Waterloo in Canada under the InnoHK initiative of the HKSAR Government. It is located at the Hong Kong Science Park, Shatin, Hong Kong. It is the first global hub performing ground-breaking research in five key areas – myopia and eye growth, ocular drug discovery and delivery, vision enhancement, tear film and ocular surface and advanced optometric technology. The mission of CEVR is to generate technologies to prevent vision loss in the aging population and preserve healthy vision.

Research study background:

Astigmatism is a very common refractive error worldwide. The constant optical blur produced by the differential ocular powers along principal astigmatic meridians could only be corrected by ophthalmic aids or refractive surgery. However, the conventional way of prescribing astigmatic correction relies only on the refraction measured along the primary visual axis and ignores peripheral optics. This project aims to develop innovative optical device to identify the best-match ophthalmic optics products in the market that guarantee the best central and peripheral optics for astigmats.

Required skills and job duty:

The appointees will assist the project leaders in the research project : “Advanced detection and correction of refractive error” The tasks include hardware and software development for innovative instrument, project development, study design/protocol, ethics application, experimental setup, data collection, data analysis and preparation of manuscript. Preference will be given to candidate who has the experience in the following areas: Refractive Error Development and Control, Ophthalmic Optics, Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computing or Vision Science.
