Organisation Background: Centre for Eye and Vision Research Limited (CEVR) is a research collaboration between The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the University of Waterloo (UW) in Canada. It is located at the Hong Kong Science Park, Pak Shek Kok, New Territories. The centre operates a clinical and a wet laboratory which houses cell culture, animal experimentation, mass spectrometry and other clinical facilities in eye research. Ground-breaking research in five key areas – myopia and eye growth, ocular drug discovery and delivery, vision enhancement, tear film and ocular surface and advanced optometric technology will be carried out in the lab. The mission of CEVR is to generate technologies to prevent vision loss in the aging population and preserve healthy vision.
Required Skills and job duty: The appointee will report to the Senior Scientific Officer and shall provide day-to-day support to the laboratory according to established regulations and guidelines.
Duties: To provide assistance in training and operation of laboratory equipment To assist in identifying, reporting, and addressing any issues with the laboratory facilities To maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with safety procedures and troubleshoot minor equipment problems To maintain an accurate laboratory equipment and chemical inventory To obtain quotations and assist in procurement of laboratory items To prepare stock solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory To handle safe disposal of waste materials (both chemical and biological) To perform general laboratory housekeeping and maintain a clean and orderly working area To carry out appropriate animal husbandry and assist in animal procedures such as administrating medications and treatments To interact with investigators regarding husbandry and health of the animals under their care To have good awareness in laboratory safety, check for laboratory hazards, take preventive or corrective actions To assume other duties and responsibilities as necessary
Qualifications: Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Biological Sciences, Life Science or related disciplines with at least 2 years’ hands-on laboratory work experience Experience in animal husbandry would be an added advantage Self-motivated and able to work independently Good time-management and organizational skills High sense of responsibility and teamwork Good command of written and spoken English and Cantonese Preference will be given to candidates who have IT knowledge and experience in wet or animal lab.
