The InnoHK Centre for Eye and Vision Research (CEVR) successfully hosted its inaugural Pitch Competition on 26 May 2026 as part of the CEVR Annual Meetings 2026, bringing together researchers and industry experts to showcase cutting-edge advancements in eye and vision science.
A total of seven finalist teams competed in the pitching round, namely Stereo Science, Ophthalux, Tear Metrics, DuoClear, Preserving Sight, Accurav, and Oculus Pro. The competition highlighted a strong pipeline of translational innovations spanning both clinical applications and bioscience technologies. The presented solutions covered a wide range of areas, including stereopsis training systems; next-generation photo-biomodulation for myopia control; portable diagnostic tools for dry eye detection; traditional Chinese medicine–based formulations for dry eye; precision retinal therapies; advanced 3D printing contact lens platforms; and tear-based biomarker testing technologies.
Adding further value to the programme, Dr Abby Gao from DEFTA Partners was invited as an honourable guest speaker to share key insights on effective technology pitching from an investor’s perspective. Her sharing provided participants with practical guidance on how to position and communicate their innovations in a highly competitive investment landscape.
The competition was judged by a distinguished panel of experts representing investment, legal, healthcare, finance and ophthalmic industry sectors, including Ms Rebecca Chan, Mr David Lai, Mr Joe Ng, Mr Takashi Togasaki, Professor Andrew Young, and Ms Elaine Zhang. Their diverse expertise ensured a comprehensive evaluation of the projects, considering both scientific merit and commercial potential.
Following a highly competitive round of presentations, Tear Metrics was awarded the winning team for its innovative and practical approach to enhancing dry eye diagnostics.
The CEVR Pitch Competition underscores the Centre’s commitment to advancing translational research and accelerating the journey from scientific discovery to real-world impact. The event also served as a valuable platform to connect researchers with industry leaders and investors, strengthening opportunities for future collaboration and commercialization.
